Does weight loss rebound? The secret is here |
Worldwide, nearly 40% of people are overweight and 13% suffer from obesity.
The weight rebound of obese patients after successful weight loss is an important but unresolved problem.
Researchers from the University of Copenhagen and Hvidovre Hospital in Denmark recently published a new study in the New England Journal of Medicine.
In a randomized clinical trial, researchers demonstrated a very effective treatment after dieting to lose weight, combining moderate to high-intensity exercise with an appetite suppressant drug (similar to the appetite suppressing hormone GLP-1) .
"People are struggling with powerful biological forces to lose weight.
215 obese and low-health Danes participated in the study.
After that, the participants were randomly divided into 4 groups.
All participants are weighed monthly and receive nutrition and diet counseling.
One year later, the group that only performed exercise and the group that only received weight-loss medication maintained a weight loss of 13 kg, and their health status also improved.
The most significant improvement occurred in the combined group, who followed an exercise plan and received weight-loss medication.
The health ratings of the two groups of participants who exercised also improved, with reduced fat mass and increased muscle mass.
"This is an important aspect that needs to be emphasized, because if you lose a lot of muscle while losing weight, you may not get a healthier body.
Using this research, researchers hope that obese patients and caregivers can create a useful framework to maintain weight loss.
