food and beverage market featuring probiotics is in a grey area. On the one hand, ingredient technology has been proven, and new benefits are emerging that probiotics can manage the micro-ecology of the gut. Regulators, on the other hand, most notably the European Food Safety Authority, have expressed reservations about how manufacturers might make claims about the benefits of probiotics.Klaus Pedersen
, chief financial officer of
Chr Hansen Holdings
, denmark, talked about the challenges the company faced in the probiotics market when discussing its third-quarter results in
7
. He points out that Greek yogurt has replaced probiotic yogurt and become a market driver.“......
We're seeing yogurt growth in the U.S. that's still largely driven by Greek yogurt,
,"
said.
"
a slightly different view of who is driving the growth from the point of view of the producer or dairy, but it is still Greek yogurt that is driving the growth.
” “
And, as you know, in Europe, to some extent in the United States, we are a little more cautious when it comes to
probiotic expectations;
(Food Safety Authority) is creating and implementing a difficult but widely claimed regulation that can be used to distinguish yogurts that have probiotic claims. If you consider from a statistical point of view the difficulty of proving such a widely claimed difficulty in chemical testing, it is very difficult.
” “
You could say that in the United States there are at least some following effects. The United States is leaning a little towards Europe. And, as you may know, the US has been much more balanced after years of claims because they don't want things like European regulatory measures or countermeasures to provoke public anger. We've also seen this delicately balanced, well-balanced market being used for probiotic products in the U.S., so we're really not optimistic about the prospects for probiotics in the U.S., although the outlook is not promising, positive health reports have emerged about the intake of probiotic-specific products. For example, a new study published in July in
, the American Heart Association's hypertension journal
, suggests that regular consumption of probiotics can moderately improve blood pressure."
small number of studies we have seen show that regular intake of probiotics is a healthy lifestyle that can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure and maintain blood pressure at a healthy level.
"
Jing Sun, a senior lecturer at Griffith Health Research Institute and lead author of the study at the Gold Coast School of Medicine at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia.

includes yogurt, fermented and sour milk and cheese in probiotics and probiotic supplements.
”An analysis of nine studies on the relationship between probiotic intake and blood pressure in
543,
adults with normal blood pressure and high blood pressure found that regular probiotic intake reduced blood pressure, systolic blood pressure (high pressure) by an average of
3.56
mmHg, and espressurization (low pressure) by an average of
2.38
mmHg compared to people who did not consume probiotics. The effect of probiotics in lowering blood pressure was most
people with high blood pressure
than 130/85., as with other studies, the most important thing to note is the details. For example, people who ate probiotics for less than
8
weeks had no decrease in systolic and espressosis. In addition, blood pressure reduction may be possible for

bacterial formation units (

) per growing intake of germs. A daily intake of less than
10

cfu
has no effect on lowering blood pressure. The study also showed that multi-bacterial probiotics were better at reducing blood pressure than single probiotics.
Believes probiotics can help lower blood pressure through a number of other positive effects, including raising total cholesterol and LDL (or
LDL
) cholesterol; reducing blood sugar and insulin resistance; and
regulating blood pressure and body fluid balance
by regulating the hormone system.
”But, she adds,
"
less and less research is being made on the relationship between probiotics and blood pressure."
” “
In addition, two of the studies on probiotic intake lasted only three to four weeks, which could have an impact on the overall results.
” Dr. Sun said more research is needed to finally establish the relationship between probiotic intake and lowering blood pressure.
