Because children are more susceptible to harmful substances in the environment, many parents are also willing to spend a lot of money on "children" paint when decorating, hoping to buy a guarantee for their children's health.
"Consumer Report" sent for inspection of 5 mainstream children's paints, including Dulux, China Resources Paint, and Garboli, and tested APEO with reference to EU standards.
Environmental hormone APEO
APEO is the abbreviation of alkylphenol polyoxyethylene ether compounds, which is an environmental hormone.
What is the hazard of this substance? Li Jiang, manager of the chemical service department of Rheinland Technical Supervision Service (Guangdong) Co.
"In the 1980s, APEO was once popular in Western countries.
"APEO exists in most additives, such as surfactants, etc.
Huang Yonghan added that whether APEO is artificially added to the company’s products is the key to this issue: “Generally, there are two situations.
In foreign countries, APEO has been restricted or banned, but China's paint standards have not stipulated it.
Paint paint paint
On the eve of Children’s Day of this year’s "June 1st", this magazine sent 5 brands of children's paint such as Dulux to a third-party authoritative testing agency, and tested the APEO requirements in the paint in accordance with EU REACH regulations.
In this regard, Professor Qu from the School of Chemical Engineering of South China University of Technology said: “Although APEO has not been detected by the five brands, it does not mean that the situation of paint APEO in the domestic market is optimistic.
In 2014, the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision conducted a risk test on APEO in paint, which also referred to the EU REACH regulations.
Lack of standards to be standardized
On the official website of the National Standardization Management Committee, our reporter found the first paint APEO test method: GB/T 31414-2015 "Determination of Polyoxyethylene Ether for Water-based Coating Surfactants".
However, Director Huang of the Testing Center of CNOOC Changzhou Coatings and Chemical Research Institute, the drafting unit of the above-mentioned APEO measurement method, told this reporter that at present, only paint APEO measurement methods have been developed in China and no product limit standards have been issued.
"The development of standards requires a process.
APEO is widely used in the chemical industry, and chemical products usually contain a certain degree of toxicity.
Therefore, to formulate standards, specific types of coatings need to be restricted or banned.
" She said.
In fact, in the HJ 2537-2014 "Technical Requirements for Environmental Labeling Products-Waterborne Coatings" implemented in July 2014, it has been stipulated that APEO must not be artificially added to products.
From this point of view, the interior wall paint used by consumers falls within the scope of APEO's restrictions.
When Dulux responded to this publication, it said: "Currently, HJ 2537-2014 "Technical Requirements for Environmental Labeling Products-Waterborne Coatings" has restrictions on the use of APEO.
However, since the APEO standard has not yet been issued in China, it can only be achieved by enterprise self-discipline at this stage.
APEO control.
"
In other words, the current APEO control in the paint field is still in a blank state.
Perhaps only when relevant standards are issued can the interests of consumers be thoroughly protected.
