With funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (approval number: 52076127), Associate Professor Qian Xiaoshi of Shanghai Jiaotong University organized an interdisciplinary research team to make progress in the refrigeration effect of electric cards.
“High-entropy polymer produces a giant electrocaloric effect at low fields”, which was published in the journal Nature on December 23, 2021
The electric card refrigeration technology uses the reversible electro-temperature change during the charging and discharging of the solid dielectric to form a refrigeration cycle.
It has high energy efficiency, no harmful gas emissions, and is easy to miniaturize/lightweight.
It is one of the important forward-looking technologies in the refrigeration field
.
The research in this field involves engineering thermophysics, condensed matter physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and other disciplines, with significant interdisciplinary features
The research team prepared a polarized high-entropy polymer by ingeniously designing molecular defects to regulate relaxation ferroelectric materials, which significantly improved the giant electric card effect under low electric fields, and increased the cycle life to more than one million cycles for the first time
.
Driven by a low applied electric field (50 MVm -1 ), this polarized high-entropy material exhibits an electrocarding effect that is nearly 4 times that of the current best refrigeration polymer
