According to a report from Thailand’s China Daily on August 18, China ’s ban on the import of longan from northern Thailand has been coordinated and resolved due to the pest problem .
China has resumed the export business of 56 Thai longan export companies to China on August 17, 2021
    .

The Director of the Department of Agriculture of Thailand, Phichit, stated that the Ministry of Agricultural Cooperatives has submitted a report on preventive measures and improvements to longan packaging plants exported to China, including Thailand’s export control system, for evaluation by Chinese experts
    .
On August 17, the Chinese side sent the evaluation results back to Thailand.
The Chinese side’s evaluation results stated that during the period from November 20, 2020 to July 21, 2021, China inspected the longan exported by 66 longan exporters and found that , 50 exporters have the least pests, so they can export normally
    .

The Chinese side proposed to the Thai Ministry of Agricultural Cooperatives in March to suspend the export of 9 packaging plants.
After rectification, 6 packaging plants passed the Chinese side's review and approved them to continue exporting
    .
Therefore, there are currently 56 packaging plants that can export to China
    .
In this regard, the Thai side once again emphasized that it will abide by the requirements and regulations put forward by China and maintain the market position of Thai longan in China
    .

The Chinese side replied to the discussion results as follows: After reviewing the rectification documents submitted by the Thai side, the Chinese side believes that 6 of the 9 packaging factories that have been announced to temporarily stop imports in March can comply with the requirements of the agreement signed by both parties.
Operation, so it is allowed to export to China again
    .

The Chinese side agrees with Thailand’s proposed pest control measures, but the effectiveness of the measures still needs to be tested during the import process.
Therefore, the Chinese side believes that 66 packaging plants’ exports to China can be carried out in the following two steps: (1) Let 50 pest detection rates be achieved.
Relatively low packaging plants can export longan to China from August 17, and China will evaluate the effectiveness of these measures in the next import quarantine process
    .
    (2) If the measures are effective, the remaining 16 packaging plants with relatively high pest rates can also export longan to China
    .
China expects that Thailand will strengthen strict quarantine inspections on exported Chinese fruits to ensure that there are no harmful organisms that China is worried about
    .

The important rectification measures proposed by the Ministry of Agricultural Cooperatives of Thailand to the Chinese side are as follows: (1) Improve orchard management and harvesting procedures, including the prevention and elimination of longan contaminated by mealybugs
    .
    (2) Enhancing the management of the packaging plant through the inspection of pests by relevant quality staff, and setting up more pest inspection stations (reception and classification/before fumigation/after fumigation)
    .
Infrastructure management, such as lighting and pest monitoring equipment, must be classified
    .
