According to Vietnamese media reports, Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) recently signed a protocol with the General Administration of Customs of China on phytosanitary requirements for Vietnamese fresh bananas exported to China, which will bring benefits and opportunities
to Vietnamese banana growers and exporters.

From October 30 to November 1, General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee, Nguyen Phu Trong, paid an official visit to
    China.
The two sides signed 13 cooperation documents covering various fields, including the Protocol on Vietnam's Banana Export to China
    .

Minister Le Minh Hwan of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam pointed out that the implementation of the protocol will help reduce the plant inspection and quarantine rate at ports, speed up customs clearance time, ensure that bananas are officially exported at stable prices, ease congestion at agricultural product border ports, reduce market risks, and enhance the credibility
    of Vietnamese bananas in China.

According to reports, the protocol stipulates that all banana planting areas and packaging facilities exported to China must be approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Administration of Customs of China, and the planting areas must be produced in accordance with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) standards, and the packaging process of the planting areas and packaging facilities must be monitored
    .
Packaging facilities are required to meet product traceability requirements, must undergo 2% phytosanitary sampling when exporting to China, and must comply with Chinese food safety standards, among other
    things.
Minister Le Minh Huan added that Vietnamese fresh bananas will be exported
through all Chinese border crossings approved by the General Administration of Customs.

At present, 11 kinds of fruits in Vietnam are exported to China through regular trade channels, including dragon fruit, longan, rambutan, mango, jackfruit, watermelon, banana, mangosteen, lychee, durian and passion fruit
    .
Among them, passion fruit is only allowed to be imported through the pilot port of Guangxi for landing processing
    .

Although Vietnamese bananas are not on the entry list of the General Administration of Customs of China, Vietnamese bananas have been exported
to China through border trade and other channels for many years.
In the past three years, Vietnamese bananas have been exported to China through phytosanitary more than 430,000 tons (2020), 574,000 tons (2021) and 591,000 tons (first nine months of 2022).
