Chile's Minister of Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela, and representatives of the Fruit Export Industry Association officially kicked off the 2022/23 fruit export season
with a ceremony at the South Pacific Terminal (TPS) in Valparaíso, Chile, on November 22.

Valenzuela called for public-private sector collaboration, saying: "It is a pleasure to launch the fruit export season in a rainy year, which is expected to be a good time to export cherries to Asia and especially to China, and we are working with the Chilean Association of Fruit Exporters (Asoex) to achieve full traceability of fruit and avoid downtime that can damage the production chain, which is a challenge and we are doing our best
    .
    " ”

Iván Marambio, president of Asoex, said: "We are optimistic about
    the 2022/23 fruit export season.
Previously, we worked on a public-private partnership to handle complex logistics issues in order to maintain Chile's leading
position as a fruit exporter in the southern hemisphere.

Marambio predicts that despite a decline in Chilean table grape and blueberries exports in the 2022/23 fruit export season, total fruit exports will remain stable, "thanks to the efforts of the industry to produce the high-quality fruits required by the market"
    .

Daniel Fernández, President of the Chilean Chamber of Maritime and Port Commerce (Camport), stressed that "Camport and Asoex submitted a work plan to the government to improve the operation and management of the port terminal for the fruit export season, seeking better coordination between public and private institutions to guarantee
    smoother exports.

Luis Eduardo Escobar, President of the Board of Directors of Puerto Valparaíso, noted: "It is no coincidence
that we chose to hold the launch of the fruit export season in Valparaíso.
Valparaíso is not Chile's largest port, but it plays a fundamental role in Chilean foreign trade, as well as Chilean fruit sold around the world
    .
These achievements are due to the efficiency and high coordination of the port's logistics chain, a virtuous alliance of employees, companies and public institutions who work every day to make Valparaiso one of the best ports in South America
    .

Oliver Weinreich, General Manager of TPS, said: "As a port terminal, we are engaged in the transfer of products that are essential for Chile's foreign trade, and operational excellence in the logistics chain is essential
    .
With the joint efforts of all parties, the 2022/23 fruit export season will be very successful
    .

According to statistics, in the 2021/22 season, Chile exported a total of 2647532 tons of fresh fruit
    .
Of this, 30% went to the United States, 29% to Asia, 20% to Latin America, 18% to Europe, and Canada and the Middle East received 1.
    7%
    each.

In terms of exports, Chile's main fresh fruit exports include table grapes (23%), apples (23%), cherries (14%), prunes (6%) and kiwis (5.
    1%)
