Thanks to advances in early diagnosis and cancer treatments, more and more cancers are surviving for a long time
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the second most common cause of death among cancer survivors, after cancer deaths
Prevention of cardiovascular disease is an important part of survival care for cancer survivors
Patients with cancer who underwent routine health check-ups between 2009 and 2019 and who had survived more than 5 years as of January 1, 2011 and were followed up for hospitalization for cardiovascular disease (ischemic heart disease, stroke, or heart failure) were included.
There was a graded positive correlation between TyG index and CVD hospitalization
A 1-unit increase in the TyG index was associated with a 16% increase in the risk of CVD hospitalization and a 45% increase in the risk of acute myocardial infarction hospitalization
The TyG index may serve as a simple surrogate for risk stratification of future cardiovascular disease events (especially atherosclerotic subtypes) in cancer survivors
