Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) has issued a warning that nearly 300 people have been infected with norovirus from raw oysters from Canada .
Potentially contaminated raw oysters harvested in southern and central Baines Bay, British Columbia, Canada distributed to California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Nevada , the FDA said in a news release, New York, Oregon, Texas and Washington

"It is possible that other states acquired these oysters through further distribution in the United States," the FDA said

Several recalls have occurred in British Columbia and certain shellfish harvesting areas have been closed due to 279 cases of norovirus and gastrointestinal illness linked to the consumption of BC oysters, the Public Health Agency of Canada said in a release.

The recall affects Stellar Bay Shellfish, Pacific Rim Shellfish, Daily Fresh Shellfish and Taylor Shellfish Canada ULC, which operate under the name Fanny Bay Oysters
