On February 15, 2022, Professor Cai Yingfan's team from the School of Life Sciences published a research paper on " lncRNA7 and lncRNA2 modulate cell wall defense genes to regulate cotton resistance to Verticillium wilt" in Plant Physiology , revealing that cotton long non-coding RNAs are encoded by Molecular mechanisms by which small peptides and auxin pathways regulate cell wall defense-related genes and thus regulate cotton Verticillium wilt resistance .
Plant diseases are a serious threat to the world's grain, cotton, oil and ecological security
In this study , 59 lncRNAs and 109 mRNAs regulated by them were identified by mining and analysis of the differentially expressed lncRNAs and mRNAs in the roots of introgressed cotton in the land-sea introgression line after inoculation with V.
The researchers further used overexpression and UPLC-MS (ultra-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry) techniques to confirm that lncRNA7 encodes a small peptide PSK-α, and exogenous application of PSK-α can enhance the resistance of cotton to Verticillium wilt
lncRNA7 , lncRNA2 resist V.
This study revealed the molecular mechanism of long non-coding RNAs regulating cell wall defense genes by encoding small peptides to regulate Verticillium wilt resistance, providing a new strategy and approach for cotton breeding against Verticillium wilt
