    Adult ICU patients often require continuous infusion of sedatives to promote tolerance to mechanical ventilation (MV.


    Recently, a research article was published in the British Journal of Anaesthesia, an authoritative journal in the field of anesthesiolog.


    The primary outcome of the study was length of ICU stay; secondary outcomes included duration of mechanical ventilation, ICU delirium, all-cause mortality, and hemodynamic effect.


    The analysis included 41 trials (N=3948.


    CONCLUSIONS: Compared with propofol, dexmedetomidine had no significant effect on ICU length of stay, but significantly reduced mechanical ventilation time and delirium risk in cardiac surgery patient.
