The study, published in the JAMA Network Open, studied 80 premature babies.
This is the first time of its kind to show that premature babies who are exposed to more mothers’ breast milk have a heart when they are one year old.
The function is enhanced, and its value is close to that of a healthy full-term baby
.
The research was led by Professor Afif EL-Khuffash, a clinical professor of pediatrics at RCSI and a neonatal consultant at Dublin Round Hall Hospital, with a collaboration of researchers from the University of Oxford; Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto; Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University; School of Medicine at the University of Washington; There is Harvard Medical School
.
Premature children and adults are at higher risk of cardiovascular disease, including ischemic heart disease, heart failure, systemic and pulmonary hypertension, and are more likely to die from cardiovascular disease
.
The heart of young people born early has some unique characteristics, such as reduced double ventricle volume, shortened length, reduced systolic and diastolic function, and disproportionate increase in muscle mass
This study shows that in the first few months of life, the intake of exclusive breast milk is associated with some normalization of these characteristics
.
Premature infants exposed to a high percentage of mother’s milk deliver larger left and right lung cancers after the first few weeks.
These findings were obvious before discharge from the hospital and lasted until one year of age (follow-up time)
.
Professor EL-Khuffash said: "This study provides the first evidence for the link between early nutrition and heart function within one year of preterm infants, and further confirms the known benefits of breast milk for preterm infants
.
"
"The heart function of premature babies is abnormal
.
However, those who fed their mothers' breast
