539 was published in the Official Gazette of Brazil, establishing the Technical Regulation on the Quality of Sugarcane Brandy and Sugarcane Liquor
.
The main contents of the regulations include terms, definitions and classifications (sugarcane brandy is obtained by distillation and fermentation of sugarcane juice, alcohol content 38%-48%, added sugar is allowed; Sugarcane wine is fermented and distilled with sugarcane juice as raw material, and then matured in wooden barrels), production process requirements (caramel color and water are allowed, and the sugar content in sugarcane brandy shall not be less than 30g/L), sensory quality and physical and chemical parameters, container and label regulations, pollutant hygiene requirements (the methanol content of both products shall not exceed 20mg/100mL), etc
.
The regulation came into force
on February 1, 2023.
