Recent data indicate that there is a ring of iron-containing microglia around the white matter lesions of multiple sclerosis, which is called hoop lesions, which means that the patient's disease course is more serious and there is a tendency to develop progressive multiple sclerosis.

The study is a prospective longitudinal cohort study, recruiting 33 patients (17 females, 30 relapsing-remitting patients, 3 secondary progressive multiple sclerosis), with a median age of 36.
