Climate protection is at the heart of BASF's new corporate strategy. BASF's goal is to keep total CO2 emissions unchanged by 2030 as capacity increases. This is an important and challenging goal
.
The new process promotes climate protection
Recently, BASF signed a memorandum of understanding with Tianhua Co., Ltd. to jointly establish a pilot production facility dedicated to significantly reducing carbon emissions from dmethyl ether synthesis and improving energy efficiency through a new process. Dimethyl ether is an intermediate for the production of low-olefins such as ethylene and propylene. Up to now, the production of dimethyl ether from synthetic gas has yet to go through the intermediate step of synthetic methanol.
Under the memorandum of understanding for cooperation, Yan Tianhua will invest in the construction of a pilot plant using a new process developed jointly by BASF and Linde Group, for which BASF will provide a new high-performance catalyst system for the one-step conversion of synthesizer to dimethyl ether. In addition, Linde will provide equipment design and process engineering services for direct synthesis of dimethyl ether. The test device will be built in 2020.
the technology significantly expands the hydrocarbon ratio available from steam restructuring technology by re-engineering CO2 and natural gas under conventional industrial pressure through two innovative catalysts. The water-to-carbon ratio of existing hydrogen plants can be reduced (reduced operating costs) by replacing catalysts alone. The step-by-step technology of the new installation can greatly reduce the investment cost and operation cost. Direct synthesis of DME technology improves energy efficiency. Reduce CO2 emissions with high conversion rates and low cycle volumes.
open platform for innovation cooperation
and the open innovation cooperation platform provided by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation contributed to this cooperation project.
Shousheng Li, President of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation:
Our goal in building an open and innovative cooperation platform is to continuously achieve new breakthroughs in core technologies and achieve high-quality development and transformation and upgrading of the industry. Basf's cooperation project with Tianhua is a good example. As
major chemical producer in China, Yan Tianhua is the first large chemical company in China to introduce international advanced technology to produce synthetic ammonia and urea from natural gas.
Tianhua (Group) Co., Ltd. Chairman, Party Secretary Tan Guangjun:
Tianhua has a complete production capacity and good ability to transform new technology engineering, and has been concerned about the application of advanced technology and technology. We are pleased to work with BASF to produce key chemicals in a more environmentally friendly manner. "
breakthrough process is due to the new high-performance catalyst system developed by BASF's research and development staff, as well as Linde's innovative process design that significantly reduces CO2 emissions. BASF and Linde have been working together for several years to develop this technology for the direct generation of dmethyl ether compounds.
Ruff, Global Senior Vice President, BASF Process Catalysts,
BASF's partnership with Linde and Tianhua is another example of our successful partnership with engineering companies and technology providers. As the world's leading catalyst manufacturer, we contribute unique expertise, and our partners are committed to driving the implementation of new processes and innovative technologies of the future. Dr
Daqing Zheng, Senior Vice President of BASF globally and responsible for business and market development in Greater China:
" climate protection is firmly implemented in BASF's new corporate strategy. This partnership will help our customers reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We will continue to promote cooperation with Yan Tianhua on this innovative pilot project to contribute to china's chemical industry in the field of environmental protection.
