The first installation at Zhanjiang Integrated Base will increase the global production capacity of engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethanes
BASF Zhanjiang Integration Project will move forward rapidly, with a total investment of US$10 billion
and new materials for electronics, consumer goods and automotive manufacturing to help reduce weight and improve Safety and Productivity
May 21, 2019 - Guangzhou, China - BASF plans to build a new engineering plastics modifier and a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) production unit at its new integrated production site in Zhanjiang under construction. This will be the first plant to be put into production at the integrated site.
2022, the new engineering plastics modifier will contribute 60,000 tons of modified engineering plastic products to BASF in China
. This will bring BASF's total annual production capacity of modified engineering plastics products in the Asia-Pacific region to 290,000 tons. BASF will fully implement the concept of intelligent manufacturing based on cutting-edge technology at its new all-in-one base. The new device will use various advanced technologies such as automated packaging, high-tech control systems and automatic guided vehicles.
, President (Functional Management) of BASF Asia Pacific, President and Chairman of Greater China, Dr. Stephan Kothrade said: "Less than a year after signing the first memorandum of understanding, it is very exciting that we have announced BASF's plans to build the first production facilities at the new integrated base in Zhanjiang. At present, the project is moving forward rapidly, aiming to meet the needs of customers in South China for innovative products as soon as possible. In
addition to the two new production units, some utilities at Zhanjiang's integrated base will also be built. BASF's wholly-owned subsidiary BASF Integrated Base (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. was recently established to further affirm BASF's commitment to the South China market, and the company will be responsible for the operation of BASF's new integrated base.
to increase support for the South China market as well as for customers around the world," said Raimar Jahn, president of BASF's Nature Materials division. To achieve this, we will be close to the growth customer industry, build new production facilities, and increase productivity through intelligent manufacturing. This will increase our innovation speed and service efficiency. Electrical and electronic companies and automakers are actively working with BASF to address market trends such as automotive electrification and miniaturization of electronic equipment. There
many reasons behind the growth of the TPU market, particularly demand for high-end applications, including increasing regulatory requirements and increasing customer sustainability requirements in areas such as e-traffic, lightweighting and automation. BASF meets these needs by providing solutions such as safety-enhanced cables and wires for automation and automotive applications, as well as lightweight materials for consumer products. With rapidly changing customer needs in all regions of the world, BASF is increasing its investment in emerging markets to meet local customer needs while continuing to invest in mature economies.
signed the first memorandum of understanding with the Guangdong provincial government on an integrated base in Berlin, Germany, in July 2018 and a framework agreement in January 2019 to develop planning details. Guangdong's integrated base will be BASF's largest overseas investment to date. The total investment is expected to be as high as US$10 billion and will be independently built and operated by BASF. Integrated value chains connect upstream and downstream production plants, from underlying chemicals to consumer goods, to support growth industries such as consumer goods and transportation. Zhanjiang Integrated Base will be BASF's third largest integrated production base in the world, after Ludwiggang, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium.the
