Fungal diseases have been one of the biggest challenges for Brazilian soybean growers during Chinese some growing seasons, especially Asian rust, target spot and cercospora.

Without proper management, including innovative solutions, the first two diseases will lead to a 90% and 50%
    reduction in productivity, respectively.
This also has a considerable impact
on the incomes of rural growers.

"Target spot disease has gained significant attention
    in recent years.
A few years ago, the disease was considered secondary, but today it is considered a primary disease that is very dangerous
    for farmers.
In Mato Grosso, for example, crops can cause losses of up to 17 to 20 bags per hectare, up to R$3,000 (about 3,942 yuan) without proper disease management," explains
Alexandre Santaella, Market Development Manager at BASF.

To meet this challenge, BASF has launched the innovative fungicide Blavity? (active ingredient fluazolidinamide 200 g/l + prothiazole 280 g/l).

It has a double barrier against fungi, the dose is low, it is more convenient
    to apply in the product.
The solution, which consists of Xemium (fluazolamide) and propthiazole, is highly efficient and brings together several other advantages to bring more confidence
    to farmers' production.

"The widespread control of this fungicide greatly facilitates the lives of farmers, as it is a tool
that can act on several crop diseases in a single solution.
Another key point of this product is its selectivity
    .
In general, the products administered may be highly potent, but phytotoxic.

When we experimented with Blavity?, it was the most selective product on the market for chemical groups," Santaella said
    .

Brazil's 2022-23 soybean production is on track to reach a record 153.
    54 million mt
, according to the latest forecast from Conab.
To maintain this high production potential, the right management at the right time is needed to prevent and combat fungal diseases
, in addition to longer-lasting crop protection.
"This will ensure that crops are increasingly productive, profitable and sustainable, allowing soybeans to last longer," Santaella added
    .

According to BASF experts, Brazilian growers are paying more and more attention to the correct guidelines for managing fungal diseases, especially in crop
    rotation.
But there are still issues worth considering
    .
"In Mato Grosso, cotton producers need to pay special attention to important cotton areas, such as increasing the use of
    multiple sites.
Multi-site management is fundamental, and this will become even more necessary
    when planting soybeans after cotton.

Another point growers need to pay attention to is the right management timing
    .
"When soybeans are still being grown, it's much
easier to tackle the disease in a preventative way.
Once the fungal organism finally develops and receives more nutrients, control becomes difficult, so preventive management is fundamental
    .
    Santaella explained
    .
In addition, he pointed out that in order to maximize the efficacy of biocides, the rotation of active ingredients and a clean environment are also essential
    .

The solution was launched in Brazil as part of BASF's annual investment of
more than 900 million euros (approximately 6.
68 billion yuan) in research and development.
By 2030, in addition to dozens of soybeans, cotton, rice and digital tools, more than 30 new solutions and technologies
for planting and seed traits will be launched.

"For 11 years, BASF has been one of the management champions of the CESB (Productivity Award promoted by the Brazilian Soy Strategy Council) and we have outstanding legitimacy and innovation
    in fungicides.
Also involved in all the innovations in the history of this field will once again work with Blavity® to improve the control of target spot and Asian rust," said
Riccardo Gerbelli, BASF Crop Marketing Consultant.
