ASEAN member states accept mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccine certificates
Indonesia's Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the regional group in Southeast Asia agreed to consolidate the three pillars of pandemic preparedness: prevention, detection and response, and to set up a capacity building center as a resu.
"These centres will enhance the ability of all ASEAN countries to be prepared in the event of a potential pandemic," Minister Budi told a press conference after the 15th AHMM meeti.
Funding for the center will come from donations from ASEAN member states and other potential donations from donor countri.
A formal agreement to establish ACPHEED will be signed later this ye.
"We hope the agreement will be signed in September so we can start construction work," Budi sa.
ACPHEED will help ASEAN member countries to use health resources more easily, with various prevention, detection and response capabilities developed and stored in three offices in the region's large economies (Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailan.
During the five-day meeting, the three countries expressed interest and readiness to establish ACPHEED offices with specific capabiliti.
Minister Budi added that in addition to agreeing to set up the centre, ASEAN also agreed on the adoption and harmonisation of health protocol standards across the regi.
"If there is another pandemic, ASEAN countries are ready to deal with it," he sa.
