3 New additives to enhance surface energy in cured coating systems
BIC Chemical has long been committed to the study of large-molecule monomer synthesis technology, the preparation of a predetermined structure of the hedging polymer, currently mainly used in wetting dispersants and surface additives research and development, research results have been patented in the European Union.is described below is a combination of large-molecule monosynthetic synthesis technology and overspending synthesis technology to develop and design new additives, see Figure 2, Figure 3.. The main surface additive chain of the traditional ABA structure is silicone structure, the branch chain is the modified polymer structure, its structure is regulated, relying on the incompatible principle of directional gas/liquid interface migration. Different from the traditional synthesis technology, the large-molecule monomer synthesis technology adopts AB structure, the main chain is the regulated silicone-modified polymer structure, and the branch chain is silicone structure.the role ofnew additives is mainly reflected in two aspects, first, the main chain structure is overspending structure of polyacrylates, the structure can improve mobility and gas/ liquid interface directional migration, and polyacrylates can also provide excellent leveling performance; The action of the new additive is mainly based on system incompatibility (Figure 4), the appropriate incompatibility will cause the new additive to be directed to the curing coating surface, the polyether branch chain in the gas/liquid layer interface to improve the surface energy of the curing coating.. 4 Test verification section 4.1 Test validation 1in water-based dark gray paint, adding a new additive that accounts for 0.2% of the total formulation amount, compared with the original formula.construction process: electrophoresis Bond plate construction 25 m water-based dark gray paint, baked at 160 degrees C 20 min, and then gradient construction primer (0 to 25 m), see Figure 5.test: magnetic film thickness meter, visual.result: The new additive gives a good wetting and coating spread effect to the medium paint. Paint in water-based dark gray without adding new additives and paint the same water-based red pigment paint in watery dark gray with 0.2% new additives, which gives color paint a good spread at low film thickness, thanks mainly to the fact that new additives enhance surface energy in a cured baking system.
4.2 Test Validates 2 . The traditional acrylic leveling aids and new additives were added to the water-based paint, and the improvement effect of the two on the appearance of medium paint was compared, the results of which are shown in Figure 6.construction process: paint in the water-based construction of the standard electrophoresis board, vertical baking, 160 degrees C x 20 min.test: BYK Wave-scan orange peeler.results: The new additive, like traditional acrylic additives, can effectively improve the appearance of water-based paint, and the effect can be enhanced with the increase of its addition.4.3 Test verification 3add new additives to different water-like paint systems, test the surface tensor tensor after baking into film, in order to show the ability of new additives to enhance surface energy in curing systems, see Figure 7.. Construction process: Paint in the water-based construction of the standard electrophoresis board, vertical baking, 160 degrees C x 20 min.test: Krüss G2 contact angle tester.results: the new additives in different water-based paint system can effectively enhance the surface strength of the curing film, the effect mainly depends on the system. The new additive mainly enhances the polarity part of the surface energy, thereby increasing the surface stress of the curing film.4.4 Test verification 4 taking into account the uniqueness of the original car paint construction process, usually water-based automotive paint using three-coat-one-baked or non-medium coating process. The contribution of the new additive to the lifting of surface stress and the contribution of different additions to the improvement of surface stress under the pre-baking conditions of water-based paint was verified by experiments. Construction process: in the electrophoresis Bond plate construction 25 m water-based dark gray paint, baking 20 min at 160 degrees C, and then construction of water-based color paint, 80 degrees C forced flash dry 5 min, measuring its water contact angle.test: Krüss G2 contact angle tester.result: In the pre-baking system, the new additive can also increase surface pressure, and as the amount of addition increases, the effect of lifting surface pressure will be enhanced. Compared with water-based paint, due to the high content of organic solvents in water-based paint, it is necessary to increase the amount of new additives.. 5 Conclusion:in water-based coating systems, the selection of suitable surface additives has a decisive effect on the appearance of the coating. Coating engineers can improve the appearance of the overall coating by improving the surface energy of the coating. The use of new additives in the primer coating can improve the wetting of the next coating on the primer coating, the use of new additives in the paint coating, medium and low film thickness, can improve the wetting of varnish on the paint layer, and the use of new additives in the varnish can improve the wetting and inter-layer adhesion of the spray on the line.: The images used in this article were provided by BYK's German headquarters, and I would like to express my most sincere thanks for the great help of Mr. Mark Heekeren, Ms. Schepers Carina, Ms. Sabrina Wink and Dr. Guillaume Jaunky! At the same time, thanks to BYK Shanghai Laboratory for its strong support of this experiment.
