Fumed silica has many characteristics in many disciplines and fields because of its superior stability, reinforcement, thickening and thixotropy, and has an irreplaceable position
Ink is a homogeneous mixture composed of pigments or dyes, linking agents, fillers, auxiliaries and other substances; it can be printed and dried on the printed body; it is a paste-like adhesive body with color and certain fluidity
There are many types of inks with different physical properties, some with very high viscosity and very thick and sticky; some with very low viscosity and very thin coatings online coatingol.
● Application of fumed silica in inkjet printing paper
The particle size and oil absorption of inkjet printing paper coating are the most critical parameters.
Fumed silica is a nano-scale amorphous silica particle with a primary particle size of 7-40nm and a specific surface area of 150-380㎡d/g.
● Thickening and Thixotropic Application of Fumed Silica in Paper Coatings
Paper coatings are mostly water-based coatings.
The hydrogen bond and physical adsorption force forming the network is a relatively weak force, which makes the network easily destroyed under the action of shear force, so that the viscosity of the system drops rapidly; after the shear force is eliminated , the network recovered rapidly, the viscosity of the system increased rapidly, showing good thixotropy
In heat-set offset printing inks, the use of hydrophilic fumed silica can speed up the drying speed of the ink and reduce the phenomenon of smudging and blurring of the ink; in offset printing inks, the use of hydrophobic fumed silica , can reduce the water absorption of the ink, eliminate foam, improve the depth of the ink without affecting its surface gloss; in gravure printing, flexographic printing and silk printing, the use of fumed silica can adjust the viscosity and prevent pigment sedimentation
Fumed silica can also be used to control the flow of printer ink and control the fluidity of ink to obtain clear printing; it can be used as a dispersant and flow control agent in the toning of ink cartridges for copiers and laser printers
