Original title: Unhealthy vegetarian diet may hurt kidneys
There is a view that vegetarianism can protect the kidneys and reduce the risk of kidney disease, but a new study suggests that vegetarianism is also important, and eating a vegetarian diet rich in starch and sugar may increase the risk of kidney damage.
A recent study published online in the Journal of the American Academy of Nephrology said researchers at Johns Hopkins University and others analyzed the eating habits and kidney function of more than 14,000 adults and followed half of them for more than 24 years. A total of 4,343 people developed chronic kidney disease during the study period.
