Increases in life expectancy around the world suggest that the incidence of Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) will increase dramatically to more than 140 million by 2050
Increases in life expectancy around the world suggest that the incidence of Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) will increase dramatically to more than 140 million by 2050
The burden of dementia is not only unevenly distributed geographically, but also unevenly gendered
RESULTS: Many studies of North and South American cohorts did not observe gender differences in ADRD incidence, but some studies in Europe and Asia showed higher rates in women, especially after age 80

In the United States, women feel particularly strongly about the burden of health care costs
After specific analysis, the gender differences in risk factors or conditions are mainly as follows:
1) Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs), including gestational hypertension and preeclampsia, affect 5% to 15% of pregnancies
1) Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs), including gestational hypertension and preeclampsia, affect 5% to 15% of pregnancies
2) Menopause: Early menopause, especially before age 40 (spontaneous or due to bilateral oophorectomy) is associated with an increased risk of MCI, AD, and medial temporal neurodegeneration
3) Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and testosterone : Some studies suggest that ADT use may be associated with risk of cognitive impairment and dementia
4) In addition, it also includes: cardiovascular risk factors, sleep, depression, diet and exercise, traumatic brain injury, pain and other diseases .
Taken together, this study highlights the need to expand gender definitions to account for sociocultural factors that contribute to gender inequality in ADRD, and to examine gender and gender differences in AD incidence, risk factors, and clinical manifestations around the world
