On April 2, 2018, the world’s leading hydrogen supplier Air Products (NYSE: APD) announced that it would increase the supply of its Gulf of Mexico hydrogen pipeline network by approximately 40 million standard cubic feet per day.
The additional product supply will come from The hydrogen production facility at its Mont Belvieu plant in Texas
.
The plant has been put into production and treated the additional hydrogen-rich waste gas provided by the propane dehydrogenation plant operated by Enterprise Products Operating LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Enterprise Products Partners LP
.
? "Air Products is constantly looking for additional sources of hydrogen to enhance the product supply capacity of the Gulf of Mexico pipeline network system
.
We have established a partnership with Enterprise Products and are pleased to promote and develop this relationship by treating additional hydrogen-rich waste gas
.
Company goals One is to always provide customers with high-quality services, and improving the hydrogen storage, supply reliability and flexibility of the pipeline system is a typical example of our efforts
.
" said Marie Ffolkes, Chairman of Air Products' Americas Industrial Gas Division
.
? The hydrogen production unit at Air Products' Mont Belvieu plant uses the company's proven pressure swing adsorption technology, which has been adopted in many other places around the world
.
The increased waste gas treatment volume and hydrogen production under the new long-term agreement are based on Air Products' successful treatment of Enterprise Products waste gas using the same device since 1994
.
? Air Products' Gulf of Mexico hydrogen system is the world's largest hydrogen plant and hydrogen pipeline network, providing more than 1.
4 billion standard cubic feet of hydrogen to refineries and petrochemical customers every day
.
The company’s 22 hydrogen production units provide hydrogen for this 600-mile pipeline that extends from the Houston Waterway in Texas to the New Orleans area of Louisiana
.
? This pipeline provides a safe, robust and reliable hydrogen supply for the global refining and petrochemical industries
.
Air Products' expertise in the field of pipeline operations can be demonstrated by the safe operation of its system network worldwide for nearly 40 years
.
In addition to the Gulf of Mexico pipeline system, Air Products also operates pipelines in California, the United States, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and Sarnia, Ontario, Canada; and through the expansion of its existing Heartland hydrogen pipeline in Alberta, Canada, it has been operating from Edmund Dayton extends to Scottford
.
? Hydrogen is widely used in petroleum refining to remove impurities such as sulfur, olefins and aromatics found in crude oil to meet product fuel specifications
.
The removal of these components can make the combustion of gasoline and diesel cleaner, so that hydrogen has become a key component of clean fuel production required by modern high-efficiency internal combustion engines
