Repeated head impacts (RHI) and mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) associated with neurodegenerative chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) through contact with movement or exposure to military shock waves.
clinical manifestations of CTE may be inconsistent, including mood and behavioral disorders, cognitive impairments, and, more variablely, Parkinson's.
addition to CTE, RHI may increase the risk of other neurodegenerative diseases, and pathology associated with CTE is often found in autopsies.
fact, in addition to tau, the link between RHI and pathology is becoming increasingly recognized that these co-pathological lesions may be part of the reason for the clinical heterogeneity observed after RHI.
Possible Rapid Eye Movement (REM) Sleep Behavior Disorder (pRBD) is a sleep disorder associated with synth nucleoprotein disease, in which REM sleep muscle dystase decreases leading to exercise behavior during REM sleep, including dreaming.
traumatic brain injury is independently associated with an increased risk of pRBD and Louisian disease, and pRBD and Louisian disease are often observed in chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
, however, the frequency and pathological basis of pRBD in CTE have not been formally studied and are not yet known.
: Immunohistical chemistry operates as follows: the human tissue fixed in high iodide-lysine-polyformaldehyde is enclosed, paraffin is buried, and sliced at 10?m.
processed with formic acid for 2 minutes for antigen recovery of alpha-syngent nucleoproteins and beta-amyloid proteins.
sliced with a level 1 antibody incubated overnight at 4 degrees C.
antibodies used in this application are alpha-synth nucleoproteins, phF-tau phosphate and beta A.
slices are treated with biotinized secondary antibodies after three PBS washes, marked with a 3-amino-9-ethyl-clickazole HLP substrate kit, re-dyed with Gilsum, and covered with a permanently mounted medium.
in a total sample of 247 men, the age of death was 63.1 to 18.8 years (average to standard deviation), of which 80 (32%) had pRBD symptoms.
participants were exposed to exercise for more time (18.3 to 11.4) than for those without pRBD (15.1 to 6.5; P to 0.02), and that the frequency of louis disease increased (26/80 s 33 percent) vs28/167 s.17 percent, P s0.005).
of the 80 participants with pRBD, 54 (68 percent) did not have Louisian disease;
binary logistic regression model of all the study samples showed that the pRBD in CTE was tangled with the back and central nuclear nerve fibers (OR=3.96, 95% CI (1.43, 10.96), P=0.008), Lewy Pathology (OR) 2.36,95% CI (1.18, 4.72), P=0.02) and the number of years of exposure to physical activity (OR=1.04,95% CI (1.00, 1.08) related, P=0.04).
, pRBD in CTE was associated with an increase in the number of years of exercise, and possibly to Louisian and brain-dry tau pathology.
