the 14th National Conference on Nutritional Sciences, as one of the chapters of the Conference, the 9th International Symposium on Phytonutrients was successfully held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province on September 22, 2019. Hosted by the Nutrition and Health Food Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society, the Korean Food Science Association and the Thai Nutrition Federation, the conference was supported by the Nutrile Center for Nutrition and Health Research and Amly, and was attended by more than 200 participants from governments, academic groups, research institutions, universities and enterprises.
the topic of this conference is "Phytonutrients for Healthy Living: From Science to Consumer" (Phytonutrients for Optimal Health: Science to Consumer). The final segment of the conference was an expert forum on "How scientific cognition guides rational consumption choices". The expert forum was chaired by Wang Zhu, Research Fellow of the Nutrition and Health Institute of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and was attended by Professor Zhang Ding of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Henan Province, Professor Oran Kwon of Pear Flower Women's University of Korea, Professor Kraisid Tontisirin of the Institute of Nutrition of the University of Mahido, Thailand, and Dr. Colleen Carkeet, a scientist at Nutrell. The experts discussed the key core issues, including 1) the distance between scientific discovery and public awareness, 2) the key factors for improving nutrition and health literacy, 3) the successful project of public nutrition and health education, and 4) the role of new tools such as social media in the communication of nutritional health information, and also strongly called on nutrition scientists and people of insight to work together to actively participate in the popularization of nutritional science knowledge and information, and jointly promote consumer and public awareness and literacy of nutrition and health, and truly move towards rational dietary and rational consumption.
