On September 18, 2021, the team of Professor Zheng Lemin from the Institute of Cardiovascular Medicine, Peking University School of Basic Medicine published a research paper entitled " Untargeted metabolomics identifies succinate as a biomarker and therapeutic target in aortic aneurysm and dissection " online in European Heart Journal , the first time It is reported that succinate can be used as a new biomarker for the diagnosis of acute aortic dissection (Acute Aortic dissection, AAD).
The study found through non-targeted metabolomics analysis that the level of succinic acid in the plasma of AAD patients was significantly increased, and further confirmed the level of succinic acid through targeted metabolomics in independent AAD patients and healthy controls (validation cohort) At the same time, combined with the analysis of clinical data, it is proved that succinic acid can be used as a new biomarker for the diagnosis of AAD
The research team explored whether reducing the content and release of succinate in macrophages can inhibit the occurrence and development of AAD
An eight-year doctoral student Cui Hongtu (Beijing Outstanding Graduate & Outstanding Graduate of Peking University) and a doctoral student Chen Yanghui from Tongji Hospital Affiliated to Huazhong University of Science and Technology are the co-first authors of the article.
Zheng Lemin has been engaged in research in the field of cardiovascular metabolism for a long time, serving as the assistant director of the Key Laboratory of Molecular Cardiovascular Education of the Ministry of Education and the deputy director of the Institute of Cardiovascular Research, Peking University School of Basic Medicine
