The Global Food Safety Strategy has been developed to guide and support Member States in their efforts to prioritize, plan, implement, monitor and regularly evaluate actions through the continuous strengthening of food safety systems and the promotion of global cooperation
.
The strategy also sets specific targets to reduce the burden
of foodborne diseases by reducing the incidence of foodborne diarrhoeal diseases affecting most children under 5 and other vulnerable groups by 40%.
It also aims to have 100% functional coordination mechanisms to manage foodborne events and improve the laboratory's foodborne disease surveillance capacity
