The Volkswagen Group has announced plans to invest 400 million euros to convert two coal-fired power plants in Germany into combined-cycle gas-fired power plants

Volkswagen plans to retrofit two German coal-fired power plants for 400 million euros
The conversion of the two power plants in Wolfsburg will reduce CO2 emissions by 60% per year, or around 1.
5 million tons, equivalent to the emissions
of 870,000 cars.
If approved, construction is expected to start this year, with commissioning
expected in 2021-2022.
Matthias Müller, CEO of Volkswagen, said: "By 2025 we intend to reduce the environmental impact of the entire Group by 45%
compared to 2010.
The switch from coal to natural gas at the two Wolfsburg-based power plants is a clear signal and an important step
in this regard.
