The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam has just issued Document No.
6768/BCT-KHCN to prepare for the 84th SPS/WTO Committee Meeting in order to answer the questions of the National Food Safety, Sanitary and Animal and Plant Inspection Agency and Consultation Point (hereinafter referred to as the SPS Office of Vietnam) in document No.
565/SPS-BNNVN dated October 14, and to put forward opinions
on the control of ethylene oxide (EO) residues of instant noodle products.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in recent times, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has actively cooperated with relevant agencies to fulfill the obligation of transparency in the implementation of food hygiene safety and the content and regulations of animal and plant quarantine in the implementation of food hygiene safety and the content and regulations of animal and plant quarantine
, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIFTA) in fulfilling the "Agreement on the Implementation of Sanitary and Plant Sanitary Measures" (SPS Agreement), the representative office of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Vietnam.

At present, the Ministry of Industry and Trade continues to inform local and industry associations of the monthly draft and regulations of the SPS office of WTO member countries, and at the same time receives feedback, answers and guidance
on the content affecting business operations and import and export activities of goods.

Previously, since February 2022, the European Union (EU) has adopted ethylene oxide residue control measures
    for Vietnamese instant noodle products.
After more than 8 months of implementation, each batch of instant noodles exported to the EU has brought a heavy administrative and commercial cost burden
    to Vietnam.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed that the working group of the SPS Office of Viet Nam consult with relevant agencies
    .
On the other hand, the EU is required to provide statistics and assessment of ethylene oxide residue control in instant noodles of Vietnamese origin from February 2022 to the present, clarify the basis for taking, maintaining and reducing testing measures, and require an ethylene oxide residue certificate to formulate a plan
for the gradual elimination of these measures.
