Danish wind turbine manufacturing giant Vestas Wind Systems announced today that it has become the first company to install a 100-gigawatt (GW) wind turbine with the installation of a V110-2.
0 megawatt (MW) turbine at MidAmerican Energy's Wind XI project in late 2018
.
Vestas has continued to make headlines in the wind power industry over the past two months, including consistent announcements, including news of achieving more than 10 GW of full-year orders in early December, and subsequent news of full-year orders exceeding 12 GW, far surpassing previous records
.
In fact, in December 2018 alone, Vestas confirmed orders for wind turbines at 2,859 GW
.
Vestas Wind Systems today announced that it has become the first company in the world to complete a 100 GW wind turbine installation as a result of MidAmerican Energy's multi-site 2 GW Wind XI project in Iowa that installed a V110-2.
0 MW wind turbine at the end of 2018
.
The first wind turbine installed by Vestas in 1979 was a V10-30 kilowatt (kW) turbine
.
Since then, the company has installed more than 66,000 wind turbines
in about 80 countries on six continents.
"We have been operating globally for 40 years and installing 100GW with our customers, partners is something we are very proud of because it underscores the era of Vestas and the arrival of wind energy," said Anders Runevad, President and CEO of Vestas, "Reaching this milestone requires continued innovation, unwavering commitment and execution excellence from all Vestas employees, so 100 GW is a key part of our foundation for developing sustainable energy solutions for the future
。 ”
Vestas' 100 GW wind turbines have helped remove 129 million tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, equivalent to saving 11.
4 billion pounds of coal, or 298 million barrels of oil, or 33 coal-fired power plants, or sequestering carbon in 152 million acres of forest
.
"By installing 100 GW of wind turbines, Vestas has already installed about 10% of the world's wind and solar capacity," explains Anders Riis, Director of Communications at Vestas, "however, we plan to have 1,000 GW of wind turbines installed by 2023, so the focus is on fulfilling our commitments and priorities
in the short term.
