Eric Solheim , Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme , submitted a report called "Towards a Pollution-Free Earth" to the Third United Nations Environment Assembly on the 4th , which mainly elaborated on the challenges brought about by global pollution.

The report pointed out that due to the improvement of living standards and consumption levels and population growth, pollution has become a huge challenge and may further aggravate.

The report also pointed out that from the perspective of productivity loss, medical expenses and ecosystem damage, the economic costs of pollution are huge.

The report said that in order to deal with the increasingly serious pollution problem, governments of various countries have reached targeted multilateral or regional environmental agreements aimed at alleviating the threat of pollution from all aspects.

But the report also pointed out that although some achievements have been made in tackling pollution, the scope, scale and effect of these achievements are limited.

The United Nations Environment Assembly is the highest decision-making mechanism for global environmental issues, and its predecessor is the United Nations Environment Programme Council.
