Ukraine's Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan revealed that Ukraine's 5G spectrum auction will be launched in 2020 by telecommunications regulator NCCIR
.
In a statement to reporters after meeting with regulators, Omelyan said authorities agreed with the position that "Ukraine will be able to sell the first 5G licenses in 2020," although the exact timeline was not revealed and the precise frequency band has not been disclosed
.
As of press time, NCCIR did not directly comment
on the 5G auction plans for 2020.
According to local media, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine is involved in a pilot project involving the deployment of IoT/5G technology on Ukrainian roads in cooperation with Nokia and Vodafone Ukraine, initially using 4G LTE network connections, but aiming to use 5G standard equipment
in the second half of 2019.
Ukraine is a late starter globally in terms of LTE network adoption, issuing a 4G spectrum license
only in the first quarter of 2018.
