    Outgoing British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on establishments serving fish and chips , a traditional British dish , to reject Russian fish , whose prices have risen after import sanctions were impose.
     
    "I think it's important to make a call to our institutions that serve fish and chips to not just use Russian fish and chips," Johnson said in response to a question from lawmakers who expressed concerns about anti-Russian sanctio.
     
    Whitefish is in high demand worldwide and most supplies are made under contra.
    About 40 percent of cod and sea bass are supplied by Russia, but Britain has increased tariffs on whitefish imports from Russia by 35 percent, making supplies difficult and expensi.
    As a result, about a third of establishments that specialize in the dish are under threat of closu.
     
    It comes after reports that the union leadership of the UK's "National Association of Fried Fish Seller" intends to ask Norway's fish suppliers for help to curb price increases caused by the UK's sanctions on Russ.
