Recently, WACKER announced that it has deepened its cooperation with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) to jointly establish the TUM Wacker Institute for Industrial Biotechnology

The aim of the new institute is to further elevate German industrial biotechnology research to the international advanced level, in order to unite all parties to develop new methods of producing specialty chemicals and active ingredients from renewable raw materials and contribute to sustainable economic development

It is reported that industrial biotechnology mainly focuses on the use of biotechnology to produce special chemicals and active ingredients using improved enzymes, cells or microorganisms, and the production raw materials are mainly from renewable resources

WACKER has been working on basic research in biotechnology since the 1980s, launching its first biotechnology products in the 1990s and announcing in March that it would significantly increase capital expenditures in the biotechnology business
