Toyobo and Indorama announced that their joint venture Toyobo Indorama Advanced Fibers (TIAF) has completed the construction
of a factory in Rayong Province, Thailand.
The plant produces high-performance nylon yarns for automotive airbags, and trial production began this month, with commercial production
aiming to begin in mid-2023.
The plant is designed for a maximum capacity of 11,000 tons/year with a total investment of approximately 2.
596 billion baht
.
The two companies said that due to the increase in the number of airbags required per vehicle in the current national standards and the increasing proportion of cars equipped with airbags in emerging economies, the airbag market is expected to grow
at an annual rate of 3%~4%.
The new nylon yarn plant will increase manufacturing capacity by leveraging the resources of Indolama and Toyobo to meet the growing
global demand for airbags.
In 2014, Toyobo and Indolama jointly acquired PHP Fibers,
Germany's leading airbag yarn manufacturer.
Since then, Toyobo has strengthened its relationship with Indolama while focusing on the expansion
of its airbag business.
