Global oil giant Total recently announced that it will build the largest battery storage project in France to support its goal
of becoming a "responsible energy professional".
According to reports, this new lithium-ion energy storage system will have a storage capacity of 25 megawatt-hours (MWh) and a power output
of 25 MW.
The €15 million ($16.
7 million) project will provide rapid backup services to support the stabilization
of France's grid.
The facility, which will be located in the Flanders Centre in Dunkirk, is scheduled to be operational
by the end of this year.
The product will be produced
by Saft at its production site in Bordeaux.
Total CEO Patrick Pouyanné said the project is part of the company's strategy and that "the development of stationary energy storage solutions is essential to scale up the development of renewable energy, which is inherently intermittent
.
" ”
Total plans to account for 15-20%
of total sales in its low-carbon power business by 2040.
The company currently has a total low-carbon power generation capacity of about 7,000 megawatts, of which more than 3,000 megawatts come from renewable sources
