From April 17th to 18th, the 15th China Electronic Information Technology Annual Conference was held in Chongqing Liangjiang New District.
Wide bandgap semiconductors have been widely used
In the context of China's acceleration of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, wide-gap semiconductors, which can greatly reduce energy consumption in power transmission, are becoming the focus of research in China's semiconductor industry.
Hao Yue, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice chairman of the Chinese Institute of Electronics, and professor of Xidian University, said that wide-bandgap semiconductors have been widely used in automobiles and health.
Hao Yue also predicted that 6G communications may enter industrialization in 2030, and wide-bandgap semiconductors in the future will release huge market potential and strong development momentum.
In order to further occupy the commanding heights of wide-bandgap semiconductor R&D, China has also established the National Engineering Research Center for Wide-Gap Semiconductor Devices and Integrated Circuits in 2020.
"China has put forward the '3060 carbon emission target', which also gives wide-bandgap semiconductors a broader prospect.
Carbon-based technology is expected to replace silicon-based technology
Peng Lianmao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at Peking University, said that as the chip manufacturing process approaches 2 nanometers, the potential of silicon-based chip materials has basically been tapped and cannot meet the needs of the industry for further development in the future.
Peng Lianmao pointed out that carbon nanotubes have perfect structure, ultra-thin conductive channels, extremely high carrier mobility and stability, and are expected to replace traditional silicon-based integrated circuit technology in the future.
Imagining the future, Peng Lianmao believes that carbon-based technology is expected to affect the current semiconductor industry pattern in all aspects.
