Recently, the World Bank will provide $125 million in additional financing for the Noor-Midelt 1 and II plant projects, including concentrated solar (CSP) projects and photovoltaic portfolio projects
.
Additional financing for the project is 600-800MW, including $25 million
from the Clean Technology Fund.
The CSP-plus-PV combination is designed to get cheaper solar power
while generating electricity without sunlight.
The Noor-Midelt complex will be Morocco's second Integrated Solar Energy (CSP) complex, built under the Noor-Ouarzazate program, following the 580MW Noor-Ouarzazate complex, which is expected to be completed
this year.
"This is another step
forward for Morocco's promising clean energy future," said the World Bank's Regional Director in the Maghreb.
Noor-Midelt Energy Group seals Morocco's position
as a pioneer in renewable energy in the region.
”
In June last year, the Moroccan Solar Energy Agency (MASEN) was shortlisted for five consortiums to participate in the tender for the first phase of the
Noor Midelt solar power plant.
At the time of shortlisting, it is expected that the capacity of PV modules providing daytime generation will be at the discretion of the bidder, but cannot exceed the CSP's net nighttime capacity by more than 20%.
