Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group recently announced that the Asia-Pacific gateway international submarine cable system APG will resume operation
at 5 a.
m.
on April 10.
It is reported that on February 27, 2018, the Hong Kong-Vietnam section of the APG submarine cable system (125 kilometers from Hong Kong) failed, causing the Internet connection of some Vietnamese users to be affected
.
On March 22, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group began repairs
in response to submarine cable failures.
Vietnam's Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications said the fault disrupted Vietnam's internet connection with other Asian countries and regions, but the company would enable backup systems so there would be no serious
impact on customers.
APG was built in 2009 and is jointly invested and constructed by China Telecom, China Unicom, Korea KT Co.
, Ltd.
, Japan NTT, Philippines PLDT, Telekoma Malaysia, Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group and other telecom service providers, with a total length of about 10,400 kilometers and a capacity of 54Tbps, connecting major countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region, including Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam
.
At the end of 2016, the APG submarine cable system was successfully put into operation, which also helped Vietnam reduce its dependence
on the AAG Asian American gateway submarine cable system.
In 2017, the APG submarine cable experienced two failures on June 20 and December 23, mainly due to the expansion
of Singapore's Changi Airport.
