TE SubCom, a subsidiary of TE Electronics, has announced that the company is working to
build ICN2, an undersea cable system connecting South Pacific island countries.
It is reported that TE SubCom has signed a submarine cable project construction agreement with the Vanuatu consortium, which is responsible for connecting Port Villa in Vanuatu, Luganville to Honiara in the Solomon Islands, a total length of 1,632km, and uses SL14-A1 cable and Ciena submarine line terminal equipment (SLTE) to access multiple landing sites
.
Sanjay Chowbey, President of TE SubCom, said, "This submarine cable project is an important part of connectivity to the South Pacific island nations and we are delighted to partner with Interchange Limited and apply our expertise and regional knowledge to this project
.
”
In 2014, the ICN1 submarine cable was put into operation, the first international cable system to connect Port Villa in Vanuatu and Suva, Fiji, and directly to the Southern Cross cable network
between the United States and Oceania.
"Interchange is committed to improving the ICT infrastructure we serve throughout the Melanesia region, and the ICN2 cable project is supporting our mission," said Simon Fletcher, CEO of Interchange Ltd.
"ICN2 is the first CIF submarine cable
directly connected to the Solomon Islands.
With plans for future systems in the region, we believe they will complement each other and help build a reliable data network that will better serve
regional investors and data centers.
" ”
Although there is no clear start date for work, all parties confirm that the submarine cable system will be ready
in the fourth quarter of 2019.
