Algar Telecom (Brazil), Angola Cable (Angola), Uruguay Telecom (Uruguay) and Google Alphabet (Google) announced that a 10,556-kilometer Monet submarine cable system connecting Boca Raton, Florida, USA, and Fortaleza and Santos in Brazil has been completed, with a total capacity of more than 64Tbps
.
Designed and manufactured using the SubCom Open Cables concept, the Monet submarine cable system uses advanced technology to deliver superior bandwidth design capabilities and vastly improved Internet latency performance
.
The introduction of commercial traffic and services via submarine cables will improve current connectivity needs between Latin America and the U.
S.
and provide a robust platform and stable backbone to meet future growing capacity demands
.
Antonio Nunes, Chairman of Monet's Executive Committee, said: "The completion of the Monet submarine cable system is a very important milestone
for the market by introducing a new generation of technology into submarine cables to be able to face the new challenges of digital evolution.
With direct and low-latency connections, the services offered by this submarine cable will bring tangible benefits to the economies of these regions, and digital radio waves open up new horizons and business opportunities, many of which are unknown
.
”
According to reports, the Monet submarine cable system is jointly developed and constructed by Brazilian telecommunications company Algar Telecom, Angola Cable Company, Uruguayan Telecom Company and Google Company, using the latest high-quality 6-core optical cable and optical transmission technology, with an initial design capacity of more than 64Tbps (100Gbps×100 wavelengths×6 fiber pairs).
