Recently, the California Department of Land Management has authorized EDF Renewable Energy near the desert center of Riverside County to own a 500-megawatt solar project
.
The 1,270-hectare project is expected to provide enough power energy for California's peak electricity demand, powering 130,000 homes and employing more than 1,000 people, including a team of more than 550 on-site construction workers
.
It will include a 7-mile single-circuit 230 kV generation interconnect transmission line to provide power under a power
purchase agreement (PPA) through the Redcliffe substation in Southern California, Edison.
The project has been planned since 2008 and was even advertised as a CSP plant
owned by Spanish owner Abengoa before EDF put the project back into photovoltaic technology.
The 500-megawatt PV project has drawn some criticism because it is only 8 miles from Joshua Tree National Park, while environmental groups have come under fire
for its potential impact on local wildlife.
It is understood that the project received $1 billion in private infrastructure investment, and the indirect economic benefits during the construction period were 67.
3 million US dollars per year.
"President Trump and Secretary of State Zinke have called for a comprehensive energy strategy that ensures America's energy security while strengthening our infrastructure to support the economy," said the
Assistant Secretary of State for Land and Mineral Management.
The solar project will bring benefits to local and future local communities and regions, demonstrating the important role
of multi-use public land for neighbouring countries and the country as a whole.
