On September 9, 2022, the U.
S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced an extension of the entry period for the fiscal year 2022 raw sucrose tariff quota as follows: All sugars entering the U.
S.
under the FY2022 Raw Sugar TRQ will be allowed to enter U.
S.
customs territory until December 31, 2022, two months
later than the previously announced date of entry.
Note 5(a)(iv) of the United States Note 5(a)(iv) attached to Chapter 17 of the United States Harmonized Tariff Reduction Schedule provides: "Sugars entering the United States during the quota period provided for in this note may be counted toward the previous quota period
or subsequent with the written approval of the Minister.
" This action
is being taken after it was determined that the U.
S.
market needed additional supply of raw sucrose.
The USDA will continue to closely monitor inventories, consumption, imports, and all sugar market and planning variables
.
