Foreign media news on October 24: On Monday, Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Marchyan Dmitrazevich said at a business conference between Ukraine and Germany on Monday that the sown area of winter cereals harvested in Ukraine in 2023 may fall by three to four percent
    year-on-year.
    Winter crops
are currently being sown in Ukraine.

A week ago, Ukraine's state meteorological forecasting agency said that less than 30% of Ukraine's winter cereals harvested in 2023 were sown at the optimal time due to poor weather, significantly lower than in previous years
    .

The Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture did not provide a forecast
for the winter wheat area in 2023.

In September, Ukraine's agriculture minister, Nikolai Sosky, said that the area of winter wheat could fall to 3.
    8 million hectares
    this year from 4.
6 million hectares a year ago.
The Kiev-based consultancy Balva Investments expects that the winter wheat planting area could reach about 3.
4 million hectares this year, 10.
    5 percent
lower than the Minister of Agriculture expected.

The Ukrainian Committee on Agriculture (UAC) last month predicted that Ukrainian farmers could cut their winter cereal acreage by at least three percent this autumn due to higher seed and fuel prices and low
    grain sales prices.
UAC said the reasons for the reduction in planted acreage included high fertilizer costs, grain sales problems and low purchase prices for agricultural products
    .

Last month, Ukraine's first deputy minister of agriculture, Taras Vysotsky, said that Ukrainian wheat production could fall to 16 million to 18 million tons in 2023, down from 19 million tons in 2022, because of the expected decline in
    winter wheat sowing area.

More than 6 million hectares of winter wheat were planted in Ukraine in 2021/22, but only 4.
6 million hectares could be harvested
    due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Ukraine harvested 19 million mt of wheat this year, down from about 32.
    2 million mt
    in 2021.
