China Mobile International CMI recently announced that its investment in the construction of the submarine cable system Bay to Bay Express (BtoBE) will start construction
in July.
According to reports, the Bay to Bay Express submarine cable system will connect Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macau, the San Francisco Bay Area, and extend south to Singapore
.
In January, CMI signed a memorandum of understanding
with its consortium members.
The total capacity of the system reaches 108Tbps and is scheduled to be put into operation
in 2021.
According to the plan, CMI's fiber optics on the BtoBE system will be connected to the Southeast Asia-Japan 2 (SJC2) submarine cable, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2020, to strengthen connectivity in Southeast Asia
.
In addition, the BtoBE system will connect three international data centers in Hong Kong, Singapore and the United States, forming an important part
of the trans-Pacific region.
