The deployment of the Manatua submarine cable system connecting Apia, the capital of Samoa, and Toahotu (Tahiti), has been completed and commercial operations
are expected to start in June this year.
According to reports, the 3,166-kilometer-long Manatua submarine cable system is composed of 2/3 pairs of optical fibers, of which branch lines are set up to connect Niue Island, Cook Islands' Aitutaki Island (a pair of optical fibers), Rarotonga (three pairs of optical fibers) and French Polynesia's Vaitape Island (a pair of optical fibers).
At present, the focus of the submarine cable construction is on the overall integration of the six cable landing stations and the testing and commissioning of the entire system in order to start production
in June this year.
Once operational, the cable system will be serviced
for at least 25 years.
