The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has joined the BELLA Enterprise Alliance, which will install a new submarine cable
between Brazil and Portugal.
According to reports, the EllaLink submarine cable directly connecting Latin America and Europe will increase the data communication capacity between the two places from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps, and is expected to be put into use
by the end of 2020.
The submarine cable will facilitate information sharing
between the scientific community on both sides of the ocean.
In Brazil, the submarine cable will land in Praia Grande (São Paulo State) and Fortaleza (Ceara), and will also establish the first internet connection
to the Cape Verde and Canary Islands.
In Portugal, the submarine cable is scheduled to land in
Madeira and Sinis.
