According to a report by the Philippine Business Mirror on December 20, Treasury Secretary Dominguez said that he agreed to extend the validity period of the 200,000-tonne Pork Minimum Access (MAV+) plan until the end of next year
.
Last month, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Adriano stated that importers only used 22% (44,000 tons) of MAV+ due to numerous non-tariff measures adopted in the implementation of the expanded import plan
.
The members of the currency committee proposed that pork tariffs must be permanently reduced and the income used to develop the pig industry
.
The Meat Importers and Traders Association (Mita) supports the proposal to extend the MAV+ program until the end of 2022, saying it will ensure meat supply while controlling retail prices
.
The National Federation of Pig Producers (NFHFI) and the Federation of Pork Producers (ProPork) stated that the extension of pork MAV+ will not have any impact on market prices, and pointed out that there is no “significant reduction” in pork prices
