Philippine long-distance telephone company PLDT plans to open its submarine cable system
connecting the Philippines to three continents in the third quarter of this year.

PLDT chief revenue officer Eric R.
Alberto told reporters last week during the 2018 Philippine Digital Conference that the company will soon begin using AAE-1
, an international submarine cable system connecting Asia, Africa and Europe.

Last year, PLDT said the 25,000-kilometer cable system would connect the Philippines to 19 countries and territories on three continents: Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Djibouti, Yemen, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France
