This standard fills the gap in the field of global bio-natural gas standards, will accelerate the industrialization process of bio-natural gas in China, and help promote the comprehensive utilization of organic waste and the development of
ecological circular agriculture.
After the promulgation and implementation of this standard, it will initially establish a standard system
for bio-natural gas with the national standards of "Bio-natural Gas Terminology" (GB/T 40506-2021), "Bio-natural Gas for Vehicles" (GB/T 40510-2021), and agricultural industry standard "Engineering Technical Specifications for Bio-natural Gas" (NY/T 3896-2021) successively promulgated in 2021.
Previously, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and other departments issued the "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Development of Bio-natural Gas Industrialization", which proposed that by 2025, China's annual production of bio-natural gas will exceed 10 billion cubic meters; By 2030, the annual output will exceed 20 billion cubic meters, ranking among the highest
in the world.
To achieve the above goals, the bio-natural gas industry needs to continuously improve the industrial system
by improving technical processes and reducing production costs.
Before the implementation of this standard, the utilization of bio-natural gas can only refer to the existing standards and specifications of a few gas industries such as "Natural Gas" (GB 17820-2018) and "Compressed Natural Gas for Vehicles" (GB 18047-2017), but because bio-natural gas is generated after the purification of biogas, biomass pyrolysis gas and landfill gas, the types of harmful impurities, the content limit of impurities, the corresponding inspection rules, test methods, packaging methods, labels, storage and transportation requirements are very different from the requirements of traditional natural gas

In order to solve the above problems, the Southwest Institute, as the leader, joined 24 scientific research, teaching and enterprises to carry out drafting work in July 2019, through the investigation of various technical routes for the preparation of bio-natural gas at home and abroad, compared with other relevant gas standards, and carried out a large number of tests and verification, introduced advanced analysis methods, and finally completed the task
of formulating the standard.
This standard specifies the technical indicators, inspection rules, test methods, transportation, marking, storage, transportation and use requirements
of natural gas produced after purification or methanation of methane-containing raw gas such as biogas, biomass pyrolysis gas and landfill gas.
The implementation of this standard will accelerate the industrialization of biogas to natural gas, which can not only do a good job in the comprehensive utilization of organic waste, but also increase the consumption of renewable energy; It can also protect the ecological environment and support the development of
circular agriculture.
